DCM Wetlands Data On-line
This page is best viewed with 800x600 or greater
resolution and with Netscape 4.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.
This site will allow you to view the Division of Coastal Management's (DCM) GIS
wetlands data. Note that these data were meant to be used for planning purposes only.
These wetland data are advisory in nature. They are not a substitute for an
on-site determination of jurisdictional wetlands. Before viewing these data for the
first time, please read our complete disclaimer.
Instructions for viewing the data
When you go to the wetlands page, you will first see a map of the 20 coastal counties.
- You can click a county on the map or select a particular county or town from the list
boxes to zoom to that location.
- Because of the size of the data sets involved, you must zoom in several times before
the wetlands data will appear. The wetlands data layer, along with detailed roads and
hydrography data layers will be turned on when the distance across the map is
approximately 6 miles.
- Once you've zoomed in to a particular area, you can zoom in or out, or pan around the
map by selecting the appropriate button at the top of the map then clicking on the map to
perform that action.
- The wetlands data contain three modifiers (drained, cutover, cleared) which are usually
shown as hatch patterns over the base wetlands data on DCM's paper wetland maps. Due to
technical considerations, these modifiers are not shown in the on-line data.
