This is a picture of a Bald Head Island salt marsh that was taken by a satellite in outer space.  This is a color-infrared image.  It displays light reflected in the infrared region of the light spectrum.  Humans can not see light in the infrared region, so the amount of infrared light is shown in red.  The more infrared light an object reflects, the brighter red it will look in the picture.  Green plants reflect a lot of infrared light.  In this picture, green plants look bright red.  Water is black and bare land and sandy beaches are white.  The low marsh is very wet, so it is darker than the high marsh.  The high marsh is lighter, with bits of red and green and brown.  Can you find an area of high marsh and click on it in the map?
